Reminder: Delegate Meeting Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Wednesday August 28, 2103 Delegate meeting and Trustee nominations will be held at 5PM at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, located at 199 Chambers Street NY, NY. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.



Pursuant to the Bylaws of the New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters (the “District Council Bylaws”), Paragraph 5.k of the Stipulation and Order entered on June 3, 2010, in United States v. District Council, et al., 90 Civ. 5722 (SDNY) (RMB) (the “Stipulation and Order”) and the Order of the District Court issued on August 15, 2013, authorizing modified election rules, please be advised that the Review Officer (“RO”) will conduct a special election for the balance of the term of the office of District Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer (“EST”) which expires on January 11, 2015, as follows:

On August 27, 2013, each prospective candidate may begin to gather signatures of members in good standing on the nomination form (petition) available from the RO’s office on the 9th floor of 395 Hudson Street.

Prospective individual candidates who have collected at least 150 signatures must submit their nominating petitions to the RO by September 13, 2013.

On September 25, 2013 starting at 5:00 p.m., at the District Council, 395 Hudson Street, New York, New York 10014 (2nd floor), a nomination meeting will be held at which candidates approved by the RO may accept or decline nominations for the office of District Council EST.

The American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) will mail ballots to all eligible members on October 21, 2013.

All ballots must be returned to the AAA by 5 o’clock p.m. on November 14, 2013.

Ballots will be counted at the office of the AAA, located at 120 Broadway, 21st Floor, New York, New York, on November 15, 2013.

Carpenters Receive Wage & Benefit Increase

The New York City District Council of Carpenters’ Delegate Body on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 ratified by a roll call vote a $2.40 per hour contract wage and benefit increase to begin August 20, 2013 for the members working under the following collective bargaining agreements.

Building Contractors Association (BCA), Independent Building and Construction Agreement, and  The Association of Wall-Ceiling and Carpentry Industries (WC&C).

Carpenters working under these agreements accounted for approximately 10 Million Hours of work within the past 12 months.

The $2.40 per hour wage and benefit allocations are as follows:

  • $0.80 Increase to Hourly Wages
  • $0.80 Increase to Welfare Fund
  • $0.80 Increase to Annuity

A vote to amend the original motion of allocations and increase hourly wages by $0.80 and increase the Annuity by $1.60 failed by a vote of 52 to 32.


2013 Charity Softball Tournament

The 2013 New York City District Council of Carpenters Charity Softball Tournament and Family Picnic will be held on Saturday, September 21st beginning at 9:30am sharp! This year’s event will be held at Cunningham Park, Fresh Meadows, Queens NY 11366. Maps and directions will be on our website as well as information regarding team sponsorships. Please check the website for weather cancellations. 

As in the past this will he a fun family day, with free food, shirts, games and many family activities as well as some very entertaining softball games. We encourage all members and their families to join us for what is sure to be a great event. This clay is an opportunity for us to honor all of`our members and their supportive families.

Our members are the most talented and skilled tradesmen and women this city has to offer and your Union wants to honor you. Our animal picnic give your District Council Representatives and Officer's an opportunity to thank you for your commitment to this union while you enjoy a day out with your family.

The softball tournament will begin at 9:30am sharp so come prepared for a friendly competition between our brothers and sisters. Join in a game or cheer on your local union's team. It is sure to be an exciting day as we witness who will gain bragging rights of 2013 Softball Champion.

The first 16 teams to register will be eligible. Sponsorship is $500.00 per team. Please make checks payable to NYCDC Charity Fund.


Carpenters Recruit Apprentices

New York City, NY (August 5, 2013) -- The New York City District Council of Carpenters Apprenticeship and Training Committee will conduct a recruitment from August 19, 2013 through August 30, 2013 for openings in the following trades: ten(10) - linoleum, resilient, tile and carpet layer; fifteen(15) - carpenter (pile driver/dockbuilder); forty(40) - carpenter apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today. It is anticipated that additional openings may be available during the recruitment period.

To obtain an application, individuals must complete a NYCDCC of Carpenters lottery card with their name, address and Social Security Number. Application lottery cards will be available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the New York City District Council of Carpenters JATC –Labor Technical College at 395 Hudson Street, New York, NY, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Only the applicant will be allowed to complete an application lottery card. All applicants must provide government issued picture identification.

One hundred (100) application cards will be available for linoleum, resilient, tile and carpet layer, one hundred fifty (150) application cards will be available for carpenter (pile driver/dockbuilder) and, five hundred (500) application cards will be available for carpenter.

This is a limited recruitment – apprenticeship lottery cards will be made available during the recruitment period or until all cards have been issued, whichever comes first.

Applicants will be notified by mail if their apprenticeship application lottery card is selected. These individuals will be required to attend a two-hour orientation where they will be provided with an apprenticeship application form and be scheduled for an interview.

Completed applications must be filed at 395 Hudson Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10014 at the completion of the initial orientation.  All applications must be completed in person only.  Proof of age, education, and Social Security Card (original) must be presented at time of application.  

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age at time of application.
  • Must have achieved a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.) (original or stamped and sealed) at time of application.
  • Must have proof of United States Citizenship or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work as determined by a physical examination. Within thirty (30) days of entrance into the Apprenticeship program all persons may be required to take a physical examination paid for by the JATC.
  • Must report to a collection site designated by the JATC for a substance abuse screening within forty-eight (48) hours after a conditional offer has been extended for admission into the Apprenticeship program, paid for by the JATC.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
