Local 2790 will soon be forming committees and is looking for any members who are interested in getting involved. We are forming a Scholarship Committee to oversee the formation of a new scholarship fund for Local 2790 and to oversee the dispersal of funds from the Local 2090 scholarship fund. Also a committee to plan and facilitate our upcoming food setup at the softball tournament and a committee for the softball team representing Local 2790. We also need help adjusting our Local Bylaws, and help with assisting our members who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Any members who are interested in taking on the challenge and joing any of our committees, please contact the Local.

In order to be eligible, your union dues and assessments must be up to date and you must not be in arrears or have been in arrears within the past 12 months, as per Section 31(d) of the UBC Constitution.

Legal Committee Decision

The Committee has evaluated 3 bids from the law firms, spoke with leadership from other Locals and has decided that it is not worth over $30,000 per year in retainer fees to have a law firm that we may not even utilize. They recommend that if we need legal counsel, we hire a firm per diem.

Legal Committee

President Rachiele has established a Legal Committee headed by John Einstman with William Lawston and Rene Gerlach to help the Local find a law firm. It is felt the Local needs a law firm to examine the unusually high number of contracts (50+) this Local’s members work under to ensure they are in the best interests of the members we represent. A law firm will also be utilized for any issues that the Executive Board may encounter in operating the Local that requires legal advice. Three proposals have already been received and the Legal Committee will present and report with a recommendation to the membership at the next general meeting.
